Nontoxic Homemade Playdough Recipe

The best part about making your own playdough at home is that you know exactly what is in the playdough and you don't have to worry about whether a child playing with the play dough is being exposed to harmful toxins. Here is a wonderful nontoxic homemade playdough recipe which you can try.

Ingredients that you will need for this recipe:
1 cup of flour
1 cup of warm water
1/4 cup of salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 teaspoons of cream of tartar
food coloring
essential oil (optional)

Other things you will need for this recipe:
saucepan
mixing spoon

Step 1
Add the cup of flour into the saucepan (no heat yet). Then add the cup of warm water into the saucepan, followed by the 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar, a teaspoon of vegetable oil and the 1/4 cup of salt.

Step 2
Once all the ingredients are in the saucepan, turn on the stove to medium heat and stir the ingredients. (Note, you can add the food coloring at this step or you can add it at the end, once the dough is formed).

Step 3
Continue to stir until the dough is formed. Once the dough has formed, take it out of the saucepan using the spoon and place it on a flat surface where you can work from, such as a bread board or kitchen table surface.

Step 4
knead the dough until smooth. You can either knead the dough while it's still hot, or you can let it cool of a bit and then knead the dough.

Step 5
Add a few drops of food coloring to the dough. You can also add 2 to 3 drops of essential oil to give the dough a pleasant scent. Work in the food coloring and essential oil into the dough until it is completely mixed into the playdough.

There you have it! great looking, great smelling homemade playdough which is easy and fun to make.
